Who we are

Jeans for Justice is a student-run organization in Los Angeles dedicated to supporting teens navigating the justice system. Through our denim reuse program, we transform donated denim into one-of-a-kind pieces, raising funds while promoting sustainability. These proceeds support mentorship, job training, and rehabilitation programs for justice-impacted youth through organizations like Homeboy Industries.

The Issue

In California, many youth struggle to successfully reintegrate after release. Nearly three-quarters are re-arrested, over half are convicted of new offenses, and over a third return to custody within three years (California Division of Juvenile Justice). This cycle persists because teens often leave detention without access to stable mentorship, education, or employment opportunities that could help them rebuild their lives.

However, programs such as Homeboy Industries demonstrate that this cycle is not inevitable. While traditional post-incarceration programs see recidivism rates above 70%, Homeboy trainees re-offend at less than 30% (UCLA). By providing free services, such as job training, mental health counseling, legal assistance, and education, the organization equips formerly incarcerated youth with the tools and support needed to thrive.
